Flight Bird Cages
Flight bird cages are wider and taller than the average bird cage. Why would you need one of these? The answer is simple. Birds are meant to fly. A small simple cage is fine for traveling, down time, or night but to keep your bird completely healthy, you truly should consider a flight cage. They allow your bird to achieve full flight which is important for a healthy happy bird. Now, thinking about all of your options could cause even you to ruffle a few feathers, so here are some thoughts.
Humans know that exercise is important for healthy living. The same goes for your bird. Regular flight improves a bird's heart, muscle and skeletal structures, resistance to disease and more. Some flight bird cages are made so that it is easy to put your bird outdoors in good weather. Being outdoors a little every day is also good for your bird. Troubling behavior, such as screeching or feather picking can be reduced by just allowing your bird to be outdoors on a regular basis.
If you have a bird that normally flits side to side when it flies, then think about a wider flight cage to encourage that behavior. Bird owners love to see their birds in flight, and the bird will be happier and more comfortable. Flight bird cages also have several perches and feeders for multiple birds, which is ideal for breeding birds. If you have been trying to breed your birds in a small average cage and have not very successful, this may be why. Flight is an expressive indicator of a bird's status and an extremely important part of breeding. That is how they communicate with their 'partners.' Would you marry someone you've never gone on a date with? I don't think so. Flight also reduces tension in your bird. In a regular cage, they sit still for hours at a time, and may become aggressive, or develop behavioral problems.
If you have an adult bird who's never been in a flight bird cage before, you should gradually move him out of his smaller cage. A few minutes at first, and then longer and longer until the bird becomes comfortable. This will minimize the stress and nervousness of the bird. If you are placing the bird in with other birds in the flight cage, please watch carefully and start out by hanging the bird at the highest point so that he can easily see the other birds. If you have a sick or recovering bird, don't place him in a flight cage. He will use too much energy trying to get around and this could possibly hinder his recovery. All in all, flight bird cages are a great idea, easier to clean, and sure to make you and your bird happier.
