One of the most fun things about buying a pet bird is figuring out the best of the pet birds names to give to your new friend. Choosing the right name for your bird can be a very enjoyable, as well as important, task.

Because pet birds often live for a very long time, it is important to pick a name that you will be happy with for the rest of the birds life. This pet will likely be part of your family for many years to come and so the name you give it will also be part of the memories you build together.

IDEAS FOR CHOOSING PET BIRDS NAMES:

Just like with any animal you choose for a pet, your bird will have it's own distinct personality. Right away you will begin to notice some characteristics unique to the bird you have picked, that make it different from every other bird. These characteristics are one easy way to pick pet birds names.

For instance, if your bird talks and has a favorite phrase, you could pick words from that phrase to identify the bird. If the phrase the bird repeated over and over was something like "Hello Darling", you could name her 'Darling'. If he were overly talkative you could name him 'Chatterbox'. If he gets into everything, name him 'Mischief'.

If the bird looks at itself in the mirror constantly you could name it 'Narcissus' (a beautiful youth in Greek mythology who loved to look at his own reflection). Or if it's favorite food is peanuts, you could name it 'Peanut'. The possibilities are endless in choosing pet birds names based on habits or characteristics, as each bird will surprise you with it's unique qualities.

Another way to choose pet birds names is to base the name on their appearance. For example some birds are very colorful and bright and could inspire names such as 'Rainbow' or 'Radiance'. Solid colors on a bird can also give you ideas for good names. Yellow birds might be named 'Sunshine', and blue birds could have names like 'Sky'. If your bird has unusually soft feathers, you could name her 'Velvet' or if her feathers are very fluffy you could give her a name like 'Ruffles'. And a bird with pink cheeks may be called 'Blush'.

Some people like to give their pet birds people's names. If there is someone you know who is special or who has a name you particularly like, and you don't think they would mind, you might use their name for your pet. Perhaps you have a favorite Aunt 'Sally' you would like to name your pet after. Or possibly your bird acts just like your older brother 'Nathan' when he drinks caffeine. Maybe you saw an English movie where you fell in love with a character named 'Sir Douglas', and you think that is a perfect name for your new bird. Historical characters, such as 'Cleopatra' can also make good name models. And you can even name your bird after yourself, like giving it your middle name.

And finally, you can give your bird a name that you made up from scratch just because you like the sound of it. You can put together some of your favorite sounds, syllables or pieces of other names to form a new name totally unlike anyone elses pet birds names. Use your imagination and be as creative as you like. You may come up with names like 'Jadent', or 'Sayshay'. Or how about 'Cinahunny', 'Silkenstuff' and 'Badbratt'?

As you can see the sky is the limit when it comes to picking out your pet birds name. So make it a fun experience and brainstorm for name ideas with your friends and family, and pretty soon you will hear just the right one for your special new feathered friend.
